My Work Placement at Vivid
Hello, my name is Rob Oldfield and I’m currently studying a foundation degree in graphic design at Hillsborough College through Sheffield Hallam University.
Whilst on the course we have a topic that involves a number of categories, one being “Professional Studies” which meant applying for a work placement with a design agency within Sheffield.
I chose Vivid after looking at their website and their work, which I was impressed with and approached Jon, the Head of Design to see if I could get an interview. I was then invited to have a chat and look around their studio as well as meet Gerry and the team and go through some of the projects that they had worked on previously. It was also an opportunity to show my portfolio of work which resulted in being asked back in for a 3 week placement after my jolly up in Berlin.
One of the main reasons I wanted to go on work placement within an established agency was to gain the experience of being within a professional environment and being a part of the team, getting involved with live briefs from companies, being involved in creative sessions/critiques and learning more about the creative industry.
I feel that being on placement has helped me gain a better perspective about design and the way in which college/university may to teach you, it has also helped me develop as a creative more in how I may approach briefs in the future and how I go about producing outcomes.
The 3 weeks (which turned into 4) have flown by, and I’ve loved every minute of being a part of such a great team.
I hope to take everything away from my experience with Vivid and take that into my final year at college/university and into future employment within the creative industry.
I’m really thankful for the opportunity to be a part of Vivid and wish all the team all the best for the future.
Rob.
