Raising awareness of Cycle to Work Day

Are you looking for cheaper and more friendly alternatives to travel to work? Cycling might be your answer. This Cycle to Work Day, we interviewed two of our team members on why they choose to cycle to work. So, let’s jump right in and learn more about the top five benefits of cycling.

What is Cycle to Work Day?

I’m sure we all know what cycling is. And Cycle to Work Day is a celebration of people who cycle to work.

Celebrated in August every year, Cycle to Work Day was founded in 2013 by Cyclescheme. The commuting event encourages people to ditch their cars and cycle to work.

This dedicated day is for anyone and everyone. So, there are no excuses. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or advanced. Cycle to Work Day is about giving it a go, having fun and enjoying the benefits of cycling.

What are the benefits of cycling?

They’re so many different benefits of cycling to work and we won’t be able to cover them all here.  Not only is cycling great for your physical and mental health, but it’s good for the environment.

  1. Improve your fitness

Cycling is great exercise. Did you know, that cycling uses all the major muscle groups? So, if you’re looking to improve your strength and increase your stamina then try cycling.

  1. Reduce your carbon footprint

Cycling to work is a great sustainable and environmentally friendly transport option. Switching your car for a bike reduces your carbon footprint. By finding alternative eco-friendly ways to commute to work, you’re lowering your carbon footprint and helping to lower the impact on the planet.

  1. Improve your mental Health

Cycling can drastically improve your mental health. Clear your mind on a steady bike ride and boost your wellbeing out in the fresh air.

  1. Save money

Whilst buying a bike brings expenses, keeping it running does not. Sure, they’ll be the odd few maintenance checks depending on how much of an active cyclist you are. But it is much cheaper than a car. There’s no insurance, car tax, petrol or diesel to pay for. And that’s a bonus in this era, where petrol prices are continuously increasing.

  1. Save time

Cycling is time efficient. Worm your way through traffic and arrive to work in no time. A quick win for those who live near busy areas or in a city centre.

Let’s hear from Vivid team members who cycle to work every day

Jon, our Head of Creative, has been cycling to work for around five years. Before, he drove the car or took the bus. He said: “I car shared with my wife, but she needed it more than me for school runs.

“Cycling to work helps me to save money on petrol and keep fit. There’s nothing like fresh air and a ride to wake up before work and wind down after hours.”

Dan, our Digital Manager, also cycles to work and shares that he has been cycling for around nine years. He said: “I had a bike that was gathering dust and I like to keep active, so I got into cycling.

“Not only is it cheaper but it’s also quicker. I enjoy the ride so it’s good for my mental health. There are no more frustrating commutes, cancelled services and packed buses or trams.”
