Wild Country and their innovative ‘Friends’ were Vivid’s first official client

This is where it all began 25 years ago – with a little help from some Friends!

Wild Country and their innovative ‘Friends’ were Vivid’s first official client.

Wild Country invented the first non-passive safety device for climbing in 1977 – aptly named the ‘Friend’. This iconic piece of equipment changed the face of the sport forever, so it was only right that it featured prominently in their marketing.

“Wild Country placed its trust in Vivid at the start of the new millennium, which was an auspicious time for them to launch their new company. Our relationship with Gerry Arcari goes back further than this, and made the decision to place all our marketing with this then-new company an easy one. Vivid has played a pivotal role in the growth of Wild Country, guiding us through the ever-changing diversification and digitalisation of the marketing mix.” Steve Foster – Marketing Director

Vivid was originally forged from a love of the great outdoors – walking, climbing, skiing – and from lived experience working within the industry. Vivid allowed its founders to work for the industry by promoting outdoor brands globally.

  • Our work back then included some of the world’s first branded websites, which we built in Flash.
  • Interestingly, in 2000, the number of websites skyrocketed to over 17 million, while web users surpassed 360 million.
  • Back then, we designed and published using the Apple G4 Cube and utilised tape backups of data files.

Wild Country will forever remain in our hearts and minds as the original spark for the business.
