Sheffield Festival of Science

Come and be inspired

Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering is a joint festival led by The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University in partnership with a number of city organisations. Celebrating all things science, engineering, mathematics and technology across South Yorkshire, the festival focuses on inspiring and engaging local schools and members of the public to get involved with the sciences and higher education. A suite of promotional material was created with a refreshing new identity for 2017.

To update the festival's identity, moving away from the more playful styles of previous years and appeal to a broader audience. The design had to suggest the full scope of festival - science, engineering, mathematics and technology and be accessible to local school and members of the public of all ages.

Science should be fun, so experimenting with everyday household chemicals such as bleaching powder, table salt, disinfectant, lighter fluid and lithium (from a battery) gave us all the inspiration we needed to create a fresh new look for the festival. The conclusion produced a striking rainbow of coloured flames that fed into the colour palette and supporting imagery.

”The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University worked with Vivid Creative on the branding, design and website for Sheffield Festival of Science & Engineering 2017. The client management was excellent throughout with frequent, helpful, friendly communication. We initially worked with Vivid on development of the website and as we were happy with their service contracted them to modify the branding and design the festival materials which included brochures, posters, badges, T-shirts, pencils and postcards. Vivid were responsive to our feedback, creating high-impact designs which we are really happy with. They also worked to our tight timescales. Would recommend and will hope to work with them again.“
