Re-branding a national treasure for Plas y Brenin®

Plas y Brenin (often referred to as PYB) is a much-loved National Outdoor Centre based in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales. It is a heritage brand, steeped in history and for over 60 years it has developed the leading trainers in outdoor sport, delivering world-class training and promoting outdoor activities for all.

For certain, this project goes down in Vivid history as singularly the most complex, challenging and yet rewarding rebrands that we have ever delivered due to the vast array of high-profile stakeholders and long-standing supporters of the brand.

We engaged with all stakeholders including the Mountain Training Trust, Sport England, PYB’s resident experts and customer base. They gave us a complex blend of challenges – in a nutshell, we needed to protect PYB’s ‘gold standard’ reputation and elevate it in the global marketplace. We thank Ben Martin who was at the beating heart of the organisation and enabled us to navigate our way to a superlative outcome.

Vivid developed a clear, singular identity that quite literally reflected their location at the foot of Snowdon. One morning we experienced the reflection of Snowdon in the still waters of Llynnau Mymbyr and this formed an idea for a beautiful logo execution for PYB.

We developed a comprehensive brand guidelines document, stunning creative assets and a new industry leading website that saw a doubling of users (following a change in the CEO our incredible website has been replaced with something quite mediocre – this was driven by a change in the back-office CRM and API which was vastly outdated).
